      Fall 2002 Horses for Clean Water Events
      Whidbey Island:
      · Preparing Your Horse Farm for Winter -- Saturdays, Sept. 21st & Oct.
      26th, 10am to 3pm. Get ready now for the long, dark, muddy months of winter
      by learning great ways to reduce mud, manage manure, prepare pastures for
      winter and more. Part I, 9/21, covers pasture management, weed control and
      wildlife enhancement. Part II, 10/26, covers mud and manure management
      options. Class materials & a newly prepared manual accompany professionally

      · A Manure & Pasture Management Workshop for Horseowners - Saturday, Sept.
      28th from 9am to 3pm. Presentations will cover useful manure management
      options, rotational grazing and pasture management. Many resources &

      · Mud Management for Horseowners - Thursday, Oct. 24th, 6:30 to 9pm. Learn
      about the many great ways to reduce or even eliminate mud on your farm - from

      San Juan Islands:
      · Pasture, Manure & Mud Management Workshops - Friday through Sunday, Oct.

      King County:
      · A Workshop for Commercial Horse Facilities on Mud & Manure Management -
      date/place TBD; presentations will cover mud management techniques, useful
      manure management options, resources & professionals available, cost-sharing
      programs, panel of peers & examples of successful on-farm composting systems.
      All participants will receive a newly produced HCW manual for commercial
      horse facilities on mud and manure management options. Contact WSU

      · Free Workshops for Livestock Owners - beginning Wednesday, Oct. 30th,
      6:30-9pm, the King Conservation District is offering four FREE workshops on
      livestock management practices. Learn techniques that will help turn your
      farm into a more useable place for you, your animals and the environment.

      Whatcom County:

      Clallam & Jefferson Counties:
      · Horse Farm Management - On Saturdays, Nov. 23rd & Dec. 14th, join HCW for
      2 workshops that will cover techniques to make your farm nicer for you, your
      horses and the environment. Learn easy mud, manure, and pasture management
      techniques you can put in place to help prepare you for the long, dark, rainy

      Sound Water Quality Action Team's Public Involvement and Education (PIE)
      program , Washington Department of Ecology, the King Conservation District
      and King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks' Grants and
      Livestock Programs.
