Pratham Purush & Purushottam make up the two volume novelised
biography of Lord Krishna written by Dr.Bhagavatisharan Mishra,
a leading Hindi novelist of India, specialising in historical
      novels.

The character of Lord Krishna strides Indian mythology and
literature like a colossus. Lord Krishna was a many-hued
complex character, worshipped and revered by the Hindu
community as a God, an avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Not less than 6 ancient works of Sanskrit have been devoted
to Krishna's life. The Brahma Purana, Visnu Purana, the
Mahabharata, Brahmavaivarta Purana, Harivamsa Purana and
the Srimadbhagavat Purana. Jayadeva's 'Gitagovindam' is a
classic Sanskrit poem on Krishna's life.

The author has largely based his account of Lord Krishna's
life on the above works but has also taken creative liberties
in order to preserve the structure of the novel and to
facilitate the narrative process. Also, it is the author's
deep-seated belief that Rama, Krishna, Buddha and Mahavira
were men who became God through their own purusartha. Hence,
his treatment of Krishna in this set of two novels is that of
an exceptional human being, blessed with extraordinary yogic
      powers.

This work presents Krishna as a human being, who attained
Godhood through his exceptional qualities of humanity and
courage. It is a perceptive analysis and the author succeeds
in putting it all together in a beautifully crafted novel.
Truly a magnificent work, highlighting the humanity and
dignity of Krishna, a man who went on to become God.

This two part novel is a tour-de-force, and deserves to be on
      top of everybody's must-read list.
