I have to admit to myself, and yall, Since Goose fest, or before I havent paid attention to Hon3. I dont mean the group, I do read but havent posted much.
From Goose fest till February this year my life was sucked up by a big project that I jsut could not put time into the hobbies. Any time I did was spent making my Blackstone car loads http://richardsjohnson.net/id15.html
Any way, I have focused most of my model train hobby effort on the On3 logging layout at the San Diego club of wich I am the sole proprietor of. Making WS logging flats from scratch, making old kemtron shays run for the club, laying track and scenery etc.
Well, Jerry's post today (Thank you Jerry Day) sent me to the Blackstone site where I was bit in the ass to get back to my first love in this hobby, the RGS. Long ago I awaited my RGS 40 from the Trackside in Chama, now gone. I wanted to have the rising sun hearald on it so I made my best attempt to strip it, which really stripped it, all down to the metal and kinda gummed the paint on the plastic tender too. It languished in the display cabinet untill tonight when I realized I needed to call and place an order for a 41 and am figuring another project with some books scattered around for research, yes its Hon3 but thats all I will say for now.
I repainted my #40 and the large 40 is still outlined under the black just barely. I kinda like that, In the past I have done that with a royal Gorge herald tender on a K36 and converted it to a flying grande. If you look close in the right light you can barely see it. The 40 will be very faint because I scrubbed it with a cotton swab trying to strip it off. Any way, the paint job came out much nicer than I expected, and besides, its RGS, with some weathering, well lots of weathering it will look great. Just wish they had made this paint sceme first.
I also painted an On3 kemtron oil burner that has its original drive gear box so its going to be a static display in the engine house untill I can put a grandt drive in it someday.
All in all, it felt good to be working on the hobby for myself and my Hon3 for a change.
Well Im ready to sit down with a Dos Equis and some pizza and watch Unstoppable on tv.
