There is a new second edition of this book called La Segunda Mulle de Herro
that describes all the steam locomotive developments in this facinating
country where 36" gauge was and is the gauge of the national railway system. Thay
      had a fascinating collection of small steam 2-4-0s, 2-6-0s, 2-6-2s, 2-8-0s,
4-6-2s, 2-8-2s both inside and outside frame (most American made) but
      continued with a Baldwin
2-8-8-2T and Baldwin and Porter 4-8-2s with Worthington BL feedwater heaters
in 1947. Many of these newer steam locos still exist and there is a weekend
steam tourist service out of Bogota.
It is like "What if the Colorado Narrow Gauges (D&RGW, RGS, C&S,
Uintah, EBT, Sumpter Valley etc.) had survived and prospered and were still
      running".
      The book is 374 9 1/2" x 13" hardbound pages with 425 steam loco
photos and 84 diesels (most in color) and all the photos have bilingual
captions and the complete roster is self explanatory. The price in England is 50
pounds but I have imported some directly into the US and sell them for $85 + $5
      media mail
For a British railfan review go to

They are in stock at the Salida Roundhoues and I hope to have some
      more for the Portland Convention

Any idea how common that cylinder and side rods arrangement was, on
North American 3-cylinder engines? The Colombian National Rys. had a
few experimental outside framed 3-cylinder 4-6-2s, 3 or 4 from two
builders for the 3' gauge, and a couple meter gauge 4-8-2s. All are
illustrated in deGriff's "La Mula de Herro" (Bogata, c1986, recently
      revised).
