Group Description

The scale is HO [3.5mm = 1 English/Imperial Foot or 1/87.1] and the track gauge is the Meter (World/scientific standard) or 39.375 English/Imperial inches.
The modeling track is of a width of 12mm (56.5 inches standard width for TT-scale) but used as a convenient ready-made track for both HO meter gauge (true HOm = 11.5mm) or for HO 3 1/2 foot gauge or 42" gauge (true HOn42 = 12.3mm).
American, Canadian, European, and Asian engineers constructed many railroads and trolley (tram) lines in meter and 42" gauges while in the USA, the narrow gauge of choice was usually the 3 foot gauge (36"). Locomotives from North America, Canada, Europe, and Asia exported engines and railcar equipment to all parts of the world.
Today, even some American standard gauge locomotives are being re-equipped with meter gauge trucks to satisfy the needs for power.
There are three other HOm or HOn42 Yahoo Groups in existence: HOm (in Portuguese about Brazil), BEMO (in English centering on Swiss and Austrian railroads), and HOn3_5 (concentrating on South Africa's 42" narrow gauge).
This group is not replacing these groups but augmenting their knowledge and skills to the modeling of meter gauge railroads in the rest of the world.
