***Animal Voices, Toronto’s only animal rights/liberation radio program, airs live every Tuesday 11 am – 12 pm EST at CIUT 89.5 FM or www.ciut.fm. Tune in for a weekly update and editorial on animal-related news, as well as engaging interviews with activists and academics.***
Please join Animal Voices this Tuesday for an interview with Steve Best,
Associate Professor of Philosophy and Humanities at the University of
Texas. Dr. Best will be talk with us about his recent essay, "In Praise of SHAC," that takes a firm supportive stance toward the direct action group, Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty. SHAC aims to shut down Huntingdon Life Sciences, an animal-testing corporation. SHAC is well-known for its controversial tactics, including home demonstrations. Our interview will explore the philosophy behind the SHAC tactics and investigate how SHAC's strategies challenge not only animal exploiting companies, but also some within the animal rights and welfare movements.
An organizer with SHAC Toronto will join us to at the end of the hour to
provide details about the Rally Against Huntingdon Life Sciences that will happen this Friday in Toronto.
We will also be speaking with Anthony J. Nocella II, key organizer for the historic (free!) 1st Annual Animal Liberation Student Association Conference: "The conference, spanning three days, will focus on social causes, tactics, education, analysis, actions, philosophy, and history of the Animal Liberation movement."
From the SHAC USA website,
Huntingdon Life Sciences is the 3rd largest CRO in the world and the
largest animal testing facility in all of Europe. A CRO, or Contract
Research Organization is a lab whose business comes from contractual work from other pharmaceutical and chemical companies. They do not develop products or research disease and treatment; they test products. As a CRO HLS will test any product on any animal for any company that has enough money to pay them to do so. HLS has been open and killing animals since 1952.
