OAKLAND - An Alameda County judge on Friday refused Chiron Corporation's
request for a temporary restraining order against an animal rights group,
finding no "imminent threat" that local employees of the biotech company
      would be harassed.

Superior Court Judge Steven Brick said incidents of harassment cited by
Chiron lawyers all occurred several months ago or in other jurisdictions,
leaving him skeptical about the need for immediate court action.

The ruling marked the first step in Chiron's lawsuit against Stop
Huntingdon Animal Cruelty USA, or SHAC USA, based in New Jersey.
