      Hello Jim.

I also have some turbo/oil issues.  My engine was new in 2012 and this spring was its first start up.  I have just over 3 or 4 hours on the engine.  No flying time.  In the beginning hour it was spraying what looked like half burnt fuel.  It was black solvent feeling substance that was spitting out from the exhaust.  I thought that it had too much fuel pressure.  I installed an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and knocked the pressure down from 43 PSI to 25 PSI and the problem seemed to go away.  I changed the spark plugs and things seemed to be alright.    I was working with Tom Olenik and he told me that I needed to go back to the proper pressure in order for the ECU fuel injection calculations to work.  So I bumped the pressure back up to where it should be and there was no more half burnt fuel anymore, but the blue smoke started to show up.  The engine runs fine except for the smoke issue. Very light smoke and it smelt like oil too.

I have read online that many turbo people thought that the seal in the turbo went bad, but with some more digging I found that the most common cause was crank case pressurization due to some ventilation issue.  If there is any positive pressure then the gravity draining turbo oil would just sit in the turbo and possibly cause smoke.  I unhooked the vent line and lowered the oil can a bit, but the problem is still there.  Most likely I am in the early phase of what you are experiencing.

How many hours do you have on your engine?

Are your spark plugs still fairly clean?

These are all just my observations,

        Mike

I have the 700T and it is burning excessive oil in the turbo.  I had the turbo rebuilt but I still have blue smoke billowing out of the tail pipe and it is also spraying oil out of the tail pipe.  Does anyone have any thoughts on how to fix the issue?  It seams like it is getting worse very rapidly.

      Thank you,

      Jim Rieck
