- Jul 20Measure the diameter at the top of the thread ridges, the biggest diameter of the plug. Metric threads are measured by the distance between threads peak to peak in MM. Standard metric threads of near that size are 30mm by 2mm, 30mm by 3.5mm, and 33 mm by 2mm and 33mm by 3.5mm. It being a oil plug doesn't mean that it would follow those standard pitches and diameters but it might. I just had to replace a helmet screw and it was oddball size of 5.5MM by 1mm Standard sizes are 6mmx1mm and 5mm x.8mm
