- Nov 19, 2017Thanks for sharing.Good to see you are back up and running. I wonder if a pressure test would have show the exhaust valves leaking? On Nov 18, 2017 6:06 PM, "bdccarter@... [HKS-engines]" <HKS-engines@yahoogroups.com> wrote:
Ok back at it today, i settled on swapping one thing at at time out from right to left. I removed prop.I installed all new plugs (they don't have screw on caps) no change. Right cyl is still cold, oat temp, and vibrating like mad at the low end and the left cyl running a little over 1k for the time of my runs. next I swapped coils and modules. Just swapped the triggers and the plug wires reached the opposite cyls. Fired it up and still missing and cold right cyl and normal them left cyl. Switched it back to normal. Next I swapped carbs, fit good enough for this static test. No change right cyl still cold and left still hot and normal. Put carbs back the way they belong. Now with all of that I knew it wasn't outside the engine causing the cold cyl. Again when it runs the mag check pulls it down on both but doesn't kill it. With all of this I dive into the motor. I remove cyl head and put brake kleen in the ports looking for leaks past the valves just a little seepage past the ex valves. So I remove all of the valves and have good marking on the valve sealing area. I notice some carbon build up in the Exhaust port so I wire brush it all out. and clean it with carb clean and brake kleen. Lightly lapped the valves and put the head back together. I was not thinking that the build up was significant and wasn't to optimistic. New gaskets and retorqued everything going back together. Cranked motor over quite a few times with the top plugs out to get oil back up into the head. Put the plugs back in crossed my fingers and wouldn't you know it the right cyl came back to life. Re adjusted the carbs purrs like a kitten. Installed the prop now it is dark so I will try flying tomorrow. My thought on this is maybe it was just some carbon on the exhaust valve not sealing at the low rpm but sealed good enough at the higher rpm. I think if I would have worked the engine more by flying it might of come out of it, but that isn't the safest way to go about that. Feeling good again,! was getting worried. Being a technician as long as I have and all
