      Mark -

I haven't looked at it much lately, but last night I was definitely having
more problems with KRON (and Bay-TV) than I've had in the past. I'm in the
Almaden Valley area of San Jose. This was happening on both and RCA and
Panasonic receiver. The RCA showed a signal strength of 78, but I was still
getting frequent freezes/dropouts. UPN on 45 showed a lower signal strength
of 70, but it was fine.

Thanks Art! It seems that KRON is the worst of all the digital channels, and it helps me to know that you had some reception problems over the last few days

        Thanks Art!

It seems that KRON is the worst of all the digital channels, and
it helps me to know that you had some reception problems over the
last few days too. The thing about KRON is that it will have
a signal strength of 68-72%, but it still freezes and drops out at
that level, which does not happen on any of the other channels.
It also drops frequently to levels well below 60%, so I have no
picture at all. It sure would be nice to watch an entire HD Leno
        show just once.....

Glad it is not my STB. I have a Panasonic in Sunnyvale and I cannot get KRON 57-1 anymore. This started about 3 days ago. It used to be just fine till now !!!

Strange, we have a signal strength of 88% on
the DTC100. That should be plenty. 57 has
always been tough, so a few weeks ago we used
it to repoint our 'A' antenna. We noticed that
57 came in better if we pointed a few degrees
more to the West, it really helped. It also
dropped the signal strength on all the other
            Sutro channel by 2-4%.

Are folks closer to Sutro seeing this?

And is it the rumored unit that has an integrated PVR? I guess now I'm

I believe the questing is "Channel 57 isn't coming in even though it shows
as having LOTS of signal" I have not watched anything all the way thru, but
I have been beta testing a new HDTV tuner from Zenith and doing a lot of
quality of signal tests and have had NO breakups. Infact I downgraded to
just a set top antenna last night and ALL the stations come in just fine.

Alameda, the place to own an HDTV.

If this is something that is continuing and I can run specific tests, let me
                know.

about but I am sure one will come out that does all that. The idea of a
HDTV PVR is an idea whose time has come. No problems with copy protection,
no expensive MPEG encoders, and it would let us FINALLY timeshift HDTV. I
know there are those who got the Panasonic recorders but you can't buy them
anymore. I would just LOVE to have something by April 29th so I can record
Star Wars on Fox, assuming it's broadcast in HDTV.

I am also one of the beta testers with the Zenith unit. I too am
getting excellent performance with picking up OTA stations from
Sutro...much better performance than my Hipix card could hope to
achieve. I think its safe to briefly mention the Zenith unit here...as
long as the scope of the test isn't discussed.

This Zenith unit is OTA only, has no Dolby Digital outputs, and won't
even do 720p. It's for testing purposes only it appears, and the final
Zenith product due out this summer looks identical, but will have a ton
of options that these units lack. The only part I can vouch for is the
OTA tuner...and this one is excellent! I wish the signal strength meter
was numeric instead of a barcode....but we can't have everything. Sure
                    is a sweet looking unit!

                    > I would just LOVE to have something by April 29th so I can record
                    > Star Wars on Fox, assuming it's broadcast in HDTV.

The Hipix card will record to a hard drive, so there is something out on
the market. I've been using mine since Christmas. I have the
Raiders/Dolphins game saved currently, and if Fox does show Phantom
Menace in HD I'll record that as well. I don't think they are showing
                    this in HD however.

The only problem is the card is hard to obtain...the place selling them
(Digital Connection) stopped pre-orders until they fill all current
orders. They may have a shipment in prior to April 29th though...so it
may be worth a shot to keep an eye on them.
