October Stories! - HASA Stories Promotion 10/2006
October - the days are getting shorter, the evenings longer: perfect for curling up on the sofa with a laptop and a good story from HASA.
Here are the most recent additions to our Public Archive:
- "After Years and Days" by Darth Fingon:
In Moria, Boromir and Legolas spend a night of quiet company and confidences. Mild slash: kisses only, nothing graphic.
- "The Best Sword Ever" by Linaewen:
Two men are tied together over the years by memories of the "best sword ever," and the desire they have to see it made whole once more.
- "Marking Fours" by Raksha:
Time and grief do not always run their course in tandem. Faramir learns that change can be a distraction as well as a deliverance. Four linked drabbles, written in honor of the fourth anniversary of the HASA/Henneth Annun online communities.
And don't forget to take a look at the latest published Challenge, "Bilbo's Birthday Challenge":
The Challenge: In honor of Bilbo's birthday, HASA is asking for short stories that fill in some gaps in his illustrious life.
Bilbo went to Dale after his Farewell Party and before he took up residence in Rivendell. Write a short scene describing something about that second trip to Erebor...
Isn't that an enticing prospect for a story? Take a look at the first three entries:
- "Treasures" by Anglachel:
Bilbo visits Thorin's tomb in Erebor. Answer to the Bilbo's Birthday Challenge. Short vignette, no warnings.
- "Sheathing Sting" by Celandine Brandybuck:
While visiting the Dwarves in Erebor after his Birthday Party, Bilbo goes to Dale to buy a new scabbard for his sword. Vignette written for the Bilbo's Birthday Challenge. No objectionable content.
- "The Hobbit and the Man" by Gandalfs_apprentice:
Just how did Bilbo come to write that poem about Aragorn? This triple drabble tells the story of their first meeting.

- "No Man's Child" by Anoriath:
What happens when you turn your back on fate, when the intellect of the mind overrides the intuition of the heart? When hope withers in the winter of approaching night, is it an act of courage or cowardice to foreswear the word you had given in its spring? When do you lay aside the dreams for the self in the service of the needs of others? ' "Then bitter will my days be, and I will walk in the wild alone," said Aragorn.' LOTR: Appendix A, Book-verse based AU. WIP.
- "Never Alone" by Nieriel Raina:

And now a farmer formerly from Staddle learns he must have permission from the Lord Iorhael in order to remain where he has begun excavating a new smial and setting up a farm for himself and his family.
- "Stars Among Us" by Allee:
A simple innkeeper (OC) reflects on hope, guidance, and the true nature of the stars. Part of the Tales of the Innkeeper series. Complete, but still in beta status, so expect revisions. Suggestions encouraged! About the Tales of the Innkeeper series: Come on in and relax with the innkeeper. The place isn't fancy but it's clean and warm and the wine is flowing. Who knows? You just might even encounter a Hobbit or two. Other vignettes in the series: This New King, Lie Down Late, and Just a Touch.
Don't forget that if you are a member of the HASA Writers Workshop, you are an important part of the HASA writers' community. You have the opportunity to help making our stories shine! Even short comments about the stories in the Beta Stories section are invaluable feedback for authors. If you have a bit more time, why don't you visit an author's forum, to see if there's a discussion going on about her current WIP? That way you can contribute to make HASA a really special place!
Happy writing, betaing and reading here at HASA in October!
