Post your request at the Birthday Cards Forum!

30th - Gandalfs apprentice: I want Aragorn. Show me Aragorn in a state of emotion, be it anger, love, fear, hope, at any time in his life. Extra points if you can include Gandalf, Denethor or Bilbo, but Aragorn alone or with any other character is also fine. Sex great too, het or slash, as you prefer.

It's come to our attention that for some months the Birthday Challenges were not opened for Birthday Folk to make their entries. From December 2005 to June 2006, no challenges were set up, depriving the public of the enjoyment of these wonderful gifts. Through the end of September, Challenges for the missing months will be open. Birthday folk are urged to enter their stories. Some of you may not have set up stories in the workshop in the first place--we hope you will now do so, so that the drabblers can enter their individual chapters.

If you have questions or need assistance, please contact Gandalfs apprentice at gandalfs_apprentice@....

Don't forget to create a story for the birthday card workshop. Enter this story in the challenge for September drabbles, so we have all of wonderful drabbles in one place. (There are instructions on how to do all this at the top of each thread in the Birthday Cards Forum; if you need help just ask Gandalfs apprentice at gandalfs_apprentice@....)

      New Challenges:

Post your idea in the Prospective Challenges Promote your challenge. When five people accept a prospective challenge, it becomes a full blown challenge complete with a deadline.

      Old Challenges:

One White Tree blooming in Minas Tirith - The Art Challenge [closes September 9, 2006]

Do you sometimes see a painting and think "This is SO Middle-earth?"
A portrait that reminds you of Nerdanel?
A battle scene that simply *has* to be the last fight on the plains of Dagorlad?
A still life that simply *asks* for the greedy hand of a Hobbit child?
A lonely mountain where you just *know* there are Dwarves just around the corner?
Here is your chance to immortalize that scene. Find a picture of a painting from any time before 1900. Write your story or poem then place the picture, or a link, in the story or poem. There are several place holders so let your imagination fly. Then this challenge can end up in the oliphant pen instead of the nugzul hutch.

Bilbo's birthday nuzgul have gotten five stories and has escaped the hutch.
      Bilbo's birthday [September 30, 2006]

Bilbo went to Dale after his Farewell Party and before he took up residence in Rivendell. Write a short scene describing something about that second trip to Erebor.
A few ideas to get your creative juices flowing:
      Going over the pass.
      Walking through Mirkwood.
      Did he see Beorn again?
What does he think of the new King Bain of Dale?
Does he pay a call on Thranduil?
      Is Gandalf along?
There are a myriad of possibilities from all Ages, races and places. Don your mithril leggings and wade in. Make a nugzul happy and adopt one today.

Members of the HASA Writers Workshop have access to a wonderful tool for collaborative projects. No matter if you want to discuss a certain Tolkienesque topic with a few other members or if you want to work on a story with several beta-readers, in the workshop area of the HASA Writers Workshop you will find what you need.

And the workshops need you, too! There are site workshops for every race of Middle-earth, and some of them have been silent and lifeless for some time. Check them out today, and if you want to "adopt" one, send a mail to the Workshops Manager, Gwynnyd! Simply use the HASA contact form by clicking on the link in the upper right-hand corner of each page.

Have a great week at HASA, challenging and full of fun!
