The Guyana Day celebrations are done in observance of Guyana’s 43rd independence anniversary, and it is an annual event sponsored by the Guyana Day Committee. It brings together diverse, multi – disciplinary Guyanese artists of all ages, from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds, who=2 0present traditional and folk expressions, and emerging art forms which are inspired by our experiences in the Diaspora.
This year, being fully aware of the fact that we share a common heritage with other Caribbean nations, we have, as an integral part of the celebrations, artists from the land of the humming bird, Trinidad & Tobago.
Guyana Day has made its mark on the rich tapestry of American cultural life, by sharing in artistic excellence and performance, through our actors, singers, poets, comedians, storytellers, dancers, writers, musicians, and other artists who strive for interpretive creativity in whatever they do.
Guyana Day 2009 will be featuring, among other top artists, three big bands that will be showcasing our rich cultural heritage, and unique blend of music – The Triad Band, The Supertones Band, and Crossfire Steel Orchestra.
