When not lurching hither and you, the Socialist Alliance
goes about its business...like our campaign for the coming federal
election with a very different take than that being offered by the

SAM Watson: SENATE QLD --- bio:

"Sam Watson is a Biri Gubba / Munnenjarl man who was born in Brisbane
and has spent his life marching and protesting on social justice
issues. As a student in the 60s he worked on the great campaigns to
win equal wages for Aboriginal people, to win the vote for Aboriginal
people and to support the Gurindji Land Rigths strike in the Northern
Territory. In the 70s he marched against Vietnam and the excesses of
the Bjelke Peterson regime and throughout the 80s he set up services
and programs to deliver jobs, houses and legal services for
indigenous peoples. In the 90s he wrote books, produced films and
continued to fight for a better go for his people. Throughout his
political career he has established strong bonds with the broader
working class struggle and is a committed Socialist. He continues to
write and travel and take the message to the people.
He now teaches at the University of Queensland and still takes up
issues on Stolen Wages, Aboriginal Deaths in Custody and Police

He has contested local, state and federal elections and in 2001 he
led the Socialist Alliance senate ticket. He now stands ready and
determined to present himself and the Socialist platform to the
voters of Queensland in the forthcoming federal election. If he is
elected he will provide this state with absolute and uncompromising
representation - "I camped in the tents of the Aboriginal Tent
Embassy in 1972 and now I want to return to that place; but when I go
this time it will be through the front door as a Socialist Senator
      for the people of Queensland..."

Sam Watson will be speaking at meetings in South East Queensland
with Ray Jackson (Indigenous Social Justice Assoc, Sydney) on the
topic Stand Up for Redfern/End Police Violence in the week beginning
April 5. This is a tour organised and sponsored by the Socialist
Alliance. For details of all meetings check the SA events pages on
our web site or contact the Alliance in Brisbane on 3831 2644 //
