It is no surprise that the Oakland is in the market for another quarterback after seeing disappointment at the position over the last few years. Could a strong-armed quarterback from UAB be an answer?

The NFL Draft reaches every corner of the world and a quarterback out of UAB is no longer a question mark but a potential marquee name. And after setting school records, Darrell Hackney has garnered plenty of interest at the next level from scouts and coaches.
Hackney, who finished as the school’s all-time leading passer with 9,886 yards and 71 touchdown passes, was also named the first-team quarterback on the 2005 All-Conference USA team.
The Atlanta, Ga., native threw for 3,180 yards and 22 TD’s during his stellar senior campaign, which also saw him throw for 300 or more yards on four different occasions - showing the world that he could compete without wide receiver Roddy White, a first round pick last year.
      Hackney passed for 3,070 yards and 26 TD’s in 2004, and for 1,659 yards in 2003 and 1,977 and 14 TD’s as a freshman in 2002.
His career passing total of 9,886 yards ranks fourth all-time on the C-USA list, and his 71 TD passes is the sixth highest total in conference history.
We caught up with Hackney and spoke to him about his ability, what the Senior Bowl meant to him and being himself.
