      GROUP #3 -- DNA TEST KIT #32917, #59598, #67845 and #68669. Common
ancestor not yet established. 37 marker DNA tests confirm a close
      relationship between #32917 and #59598.

Although some families from GROUP 3 and some from GROUP 2 resided near
each other in many areas, DNA has shown that they cannot be related.
Descendants of GROUP 3 are not related to the families of the
      Gillespie Rifle Makers.

These four kits belong to Haplogroup R1b1 the most common in European
populations. A SNP test for kit #59598 indicates that line belongs to
subset R1b1c, but the final results on this SNP test are still pending
      as of 09-11-2006. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M343

Please refer to the Gillespie DNA Project public website for test results. Click on Y-RESULTS PAGE and scroll down to GROUP 3.

There are now 6 DNA kits in Group 3. Two are at 12 markers, 2 at 37 and 2 at 67.

$200 has been added to the Group Fund for testing a new Group 3 descendant. The money is in the fund, but belongs to Group 3 so they will have the say over how it is applied. They just need to let me know when they find a good candidate.

          Cheers,
Connie McKenzie - Gillespie DNA Project Admin.

            Connie,
Through a VERY helpful member of this group, we've determined my friend IS a descendant of this Greenlee Gillespie, and now this William Gillespie, through the following:

Greenlee's son (with 2nd wife Charity Shelton) JOHN THOMAS GILLESPIE (I had traced back to Tom but hadn't made the connection to Greenlee yet).

Tom's son with wife, not name since they are 1st generation deceased
then his son with wife who I will not name here since both are still living

            then my friend
            then his son

Do you think the project would feel my friend is a good candidate to receive assistance from the fund?  Since it's Greenlee's lineage with his other wife (not Susan Lewis), I'm thinking yes ?!?!?
            Thanks,
            Karyn

              Hi Karyn,

I will ask Group 3 re funding part or all of a kit.  I just need to confirm that your friend is a male Gillespie ie he was born with the surname Gillespie and his father was born with the surname Gillespie.  If he is the descendant of one of the female Gillespies in this line and has the surname of the husband of a female Gillespie he won't be eligible.

              Connie,
Through a VERY helpful member of this group, we've determined my friend IS a descendant of this Greenlee Gillespie, and now this William Gillespie, through the following:

Greenlee's son (with 2nd wife Charity Shelton) JOHN THOMAS GILLESPIE (I had traced back to Tom but hadn't made the connection to Greenlee yet).

Tom's son with wife, not name since they are 1st generation deceased
then his son with wife who I will not name here since both are still living

              then my friend
              then his son

Do you think the project would feel my friend is a good candidate to receive assistance from the fund?  Since it's Greenlee's lineage with his other wife (not Susan Lewis), I'm thinking yes ?!?!?
              Thanks,
              Karyn

I was surprised to see a discussion about Greenlee Gillespie. He was my paternal great great grandfather and I have some information from another relative’s Ancestry.com page. I’ll help anyway I can to further research into our tree. See print screen below.

                  Russel Gillespie

                  Conie

                  Connie,
                  Through a
VERY helpful member of this group, we've determined my friend IS a descendant of this Greenlee Gillespie, and now this William Gillespie, through the following:

Greenlee's son (with 2nd wife Charity Shelton) JOHN THOMAS GILLESPIE
(I had traced back to Tom but hadn't made the connection to Greenlee yet).

                  Thanks,
                  Karyn
