Group Description

This is a group of returned Peace Corps volunteers, who served in Ghana during 1966-68.

We came from a broad spectrum of the US, geographically, politically, ethnically, and economically. We discovered that we shared a great deal: an idealism, a distrust of authority, a belief in the good will of people, and an ambition to make a small difference. We shared our Peace Corps training in Wellesley in the fall of 1966 and our experiences in Ghana. But most of all we shared, and continue to share, the impact on our lives of teaching and working in Ghana as members of that community.

We returned to mostly separate lives. Now, some 40 years later and growing, we can look back and see how much our lives were changed by our shared experience. We received much more from our hosts than we gave to them. They taught us more than we can ever repay. The paths we took on our return were diverse. Yet, all of us were profoundly affected by Ghana in fundamental ways. That we share gladly. We gather to reaffirm our shared experiences, both in Ghana and afterwards, confirmed that what we share in common has been, and will continue to be, a boon to us, our friends, our communities, and our country.
