A trove of papers and photographs documenting the lives of Holocaust victims
and survivors is now in a searchable database kept by the American Jewish
Joint Distribution Committee http://archives.jdc.org/sharedlegacy/. The
names include notables like Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel and
former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, as well as "everyday" people.
Jewish genealogist-- Linda Cantor, immediate past president of the JGS of
New York was a volunteer who helped put the names online and found a
previously unknown relative in the collection.

The American Joint Distribution Committee will present on both the
photographs and names database at the 2011 IAJGS Conference on Jewish
Genealogy hosted by the JGS of Greater Washington (www.dc2011.org). In
addition, this new database will be available to conference attendees as
one of the many databases on the Conference Resource Center computers.
Thank you to Randy Herschaft, Associated Press for alerting me to the story.
