                                          Homeless

      One pay check away
and you could be living on the street,

      One pay check away
you could be knocked off your feet,

Your living room could be a alley
and your dining room could be
      a card board box,

Just one pay check away could have
      swollen feet inside your shoes
      and holes inside socks,

      Walking to find a place
      to lay your tired body
      and relieve the pain
      inside your aching bones,

      Yet you're too hungry
      to go to sleep
      or hear the ring
      of a public telephone,

You ask, how could this happen to me?
      it was only one paycheck
      that changed my reality,

      But once, homeless people
      were something I was just
      too blind to SEE.

I had to be taken to the depth
      of total depression
      where my apathetic conscious
      is no longer Free,

I'm sure that's why God above
      had no choice
      but to open my eyes
and to just LET IT BE.
