                 Black Woman & White Man

I'm a Black woman who has
fallen in love with a White man
when he reaches out to hold me
all I see is someone that I
      desire to care and understand,

He sees me as his dark ebony princess
as I become even darker against his skin,
the contrast ignites the shadows of our bodies
like the melodies howling in the blowing wind,

      Our love has taken us
      to forbidden places
to even raising eye brows or
      bringing frowns to disapproving faces,

      We have crossed the line
      where many fear to go
but our love has joined its borders
that the world has come to know,

When we are in our private place
      race does not even exist!
as I look upon his blue eyes or
even the lips that I have kissed

His heart beats just like other men
      and the same comforting feeling
from the warmth of his skin,

Race and color is a battle
      that we may never win
      but we will never
      stop loving each other
even if the rules refuse bend,

For to deny a beautiful bouquet of flowers
      simply because they do not
      look the same,
Or blow out the fire of a candle
simply because of the different hues
      from its flame,

For people are people! no matter
what color or shade they may be
      for its only different colors
      that all people see,

      A Peacock spreads its tail
      and people marvel at
the different colors it holds inside,
But when they see interracial couples in love
they see them as only two colors
      as something they should hide,

Like trying to stop a rainbow from shining
or strip a cloud of its silver lining,

But when we are in each others arms
we can stand up against anything
      that may come our way,
And as mixed Generations come and go
hopefully the fear of Black and White together
      will slowly fade away.
