A Peculiar Imbalance (Book)
--- By STEVE BRANDT
( Minneapolis Star Tribune)
Before Bill Green became superintendent
Minneapolis schools, he was a Historian.
One of his interests, the early history
of People-of-Color in Minnesota ,
has blossomed into a new book.
[His book,] "A Peculiar Imbalance"
examines the complex and mutating
relationships [found] among
[Blacks, Amerindians, Whites,
Missionaries, Politicians] and
the Mixed-Race inhabitants that
definedMinnesota's early racial history.
It covers the first 50 years after
Fort Snelling was established.
Green calls his book an extended essay,
but it's also a footnoted history wound
around the lives of Minnesotans in ways
that reveal the shifting attitudes of the times.
