      Hello,
Does anybody have any information about the massacre that happened in
village Dobra, near Sieniawa (currently Podcarpatian Voivodenship,
formerly Galicia) on January 16th, 1946? According to Wikipedia link
over 30 inhabitants of Dobra were killed by "Wolyniak" and his people.
Also, are there any lists of people that were forcefully relocated
during Akcja Wisla (Operation Vistula) during the years of 1945-1947?
      Thank you all
      Andrew

Contrary to often misinformation published about Akcja Wisla, the operartion was conducted only during the Spring and Summer of 1947.

Regarding those who were resettled, the Przemysl State Archives has the information, but information about specific families are not open to the public.

                http://www.lemko.org/maps100/Pages/Pages/Pg8.html lower left hand corner

there were different family names from Lipowiec that were on the map
                ending with ownia.
                Sztyfurownia
                Kopijownia
                Dymonownia
                Wariankownia
                Burdosownia

What does this ownia mean in relation to the map?

                thanks,

Thanks for the link to Walter's maps Lavrentiy, I've looked at those
above in the past but never the lower ones *RYMANOW ZDROJ and south to
                Slovak border*.

                        John,
"ownia" itself means nothing in Polish or in relation to map either. It is the way Polish grammar operates and "ownia" sometimes is used as an adjective (describing who the place belonged to, or was famous for or some other attribute. So, if the name is for example "Jan" then "Janownia" could mean village where Jan lived or owned, or the village full of Jans. Or another example, "Grzyb" - a mushroom, "Grzybownia" could mean place where a lot of mushrooms grow. This form of grammar is not used very often anymore.
                        Hope that helps
                        Andrew

It is the way Polish grammar operates and "ownia" sometimes is used as an adjective (describing who the place belonged to, or was famous for or some other attribute. So, if the name is for example "Jan" then "Janownia" could mean village where Jan lived or owned, or the village full of Jans. Or another example, "Grzyb" - a mushroom, "Grzybownia" could mean place where a lot of mushrooms grow.?This form of grammar is not used very often anymore.
