One of the predecessor currencies for hryvna were sribnyk and zolotnyk:

      http://www.ukrop.com/common/ukrfolk/epos/pics/18.HTM
(it is sribnyk of Volodymyr Sviatoslavovych, at the edge of 10th and 11th
centuries. You may see trident as a national symbol of Ukraine).

      Also at the following link:
      http://www.museum.com.ua/ukr/nauch_isled/vestn2.html
at vypusk 10, moneta #3 you may see sribnyk of Mstyslav Udalyj, end of 10th,
      beginning of 11 century.

Huge collection of the money of Kyivska RusÂ’:

          Hi Joe,
Try to contact Ukrainian Philatelic and Numismatic Society, they probably
would have the best information on the subject (http://www.upns.org). There
are many online dealers (just type numismatics in search engine), but I am
not sure if many of them would have what you are looking for.
