GRIMES SURNAME PROJECT can be joined thru:

My husband's GRIMES are centered in Darke and Montgomery Co's, OH; arrived from Rockbridge Co., VA in 1805, and were probably in PA prior to that as the only son that migrated to OH, was listed as "b. PA" on the 1850 Census.

As of 1805... outline of the farthest back that I have;
Mary [Brown, or Braun?] GRIMES, widow of William GRIMES
1 son,
James GRIMES [m. 1809-1815, Edith WILLIAMSON],
5 dtrs,
Betsey [m. Edward NEWCOM],
Peggie [m. John CAMPBELL or FULTON],
Polly [m. Robert C. CRAWFORD],
Martha [m. William FULTON].

One son, Samuel, stayed in Rockbridge Co., VA and he may be the one who
is recorded as m. Betsey STEELE in 1809, in Rockbridge Co. VA.

This Samuel has long been misremembered as his father... but a letter was
found, that mentions the relationship between these family members.
William was the late husband... of Mary "Polly" Brown [Braun?]
... not her son, Samuel.
