Re: [EOSS] "Balloon" pilot reports
- The COS report was the same date as the others for the Detroit flight (Sunday the 22nd), so it wasn't a GPSL balloon. No balloon PIREPs were found for the 14th.73 de Mark N9XTN----- Original Message -----From: Mike ManesSent: Tuesday, June 24, 2003 18:14Subject: Re: [EOSS] "Balloon" pilot reportsHi, yawl,
Thanks to Mark for pulling those down. Kinda surprised that there
weren't more PIREPs during GPSL.
As I read that first one, a Lear Jet LJ60) reported to Denver Center
(ZDV) seeing one at 36,000 ft (FL360) at 0855 MDST (1455Z) 20 mile NW of
the Black Forest VOR (BRK 340020). That VOR is about 2 miles W of
Falcon CO, and about 20 NE of Colo Sprgs. So that mighta been one of
the GPSL balloons, but not sure which one was still intact at that time.
EOSS-67A was on the deck at 0850, and the rest of the latex bags were
either 'way up there or already descending on 'chutes. Mighta been
the ES-OS plastic balloon much higher than 36K' at that time, though;
can't tell since the findu log for KC0JHQ-11 isn't time-stamped. Maybe
the PIREP altitude is for the rerporting aircraft rather than the
balloon (tough to estimate unless it's right on the horizon).
The other two were on the incorrect side of the MS River to be ours.
