      1. New Page on Healthy Hepper.com about Spontaneous Clearance of HCV
Many people are surprised to hear that some people do clear (are cured of) HCV, without treatment. It is true and they call it Spontaneous Clearance of Hepatitis C. In fact, research indicates that approximately 25% of adults infected with Hepatitis C spontaneously clear the virus without treatment (though different studies have found rates ranging from about 10% to 50%). Spontaneous clearance rates tend to be higher among women than men (40% vs 19% in the recent meta-analysis). Clearance, if it occurs, usually happens within 4 months, but may take up to 18 months, or possibly even longer according to hepcassoc.org

      2. Researchers Pave The Way For Effective Liver Treatments
This will give us new insights for the treatment for liver fibrosis, and it will give us the platform to test new treatments. This also allows us to do the critical experiments that will assess the ability of different drugs to work. There are really no effective therapies for liver fibrosis—there is only transplantation. Any less invasive therapy would be desirable. This is a big advance.

      3. Silymarin Inhibits in Vitro T Cell Proliferation and Cytokine Production in Hepatitis C Virus Infection.
Silymarin's (an extract of milk thistle) ability to inhibit the proliferation and pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion of T cells, combined with its previously described anti-viral effect suggests a possible mechanism of action that could lead to clinical benefit during HCV infection.

      4. Liver Cells Grown From Patients' Skin Cells
It is possible that in the future a small piece of skin from a patient with loss of liver function could be used to produce healthy liver cells, replacing the diseased liver with normal tissue.

      5. Foods that Increase your Immunity so that your Body can Fight Disease
"Nutrition plays an important part in maintaining immune function," explains George L. Blackburn, M.D., Ph.D., associate director of the division of nutrition at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. "Insufficiency in one or more essential nutrients may prevent the immune system from functioning at its peak."
A healthy diet builds a strong immune system and helps you fight disease, such as Hepatitis C. A healthy diet positively affects your mood and allows you to cope with stress better. Eating for a strong immune system can involve a lifestyle change for some, but it is well worth it!
