Group Description

**IF YOU ATTEMPT TO JOIN THIS GROUP, PLEASE LOOK FOR AN EMAIL FROM US WITH INSTRUCTIONS AND CONTACT LISTOWNER IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE IT.**

Welcome to GA Unschoolers! Please join us and use this list to make area unschooling connections. Share your family's unschooling stories, discuss unschooling issues, share and read unschooling articles and quotes, plan and attend field trips and get-togethers, and check out our unschooling books/website recommendations. Let's grow and learn together!

However, please keep in mind that this is a list specifically intended for unschoolers or those seriously considering unschooling. This is not a list for relaxed homeschoolers or eclectic homeschoolers. Unschooling is not a synonym for homeschooling. Unschooling means not forcibly schooling. At all.

We recognize that learning is a byproduct of living life, and encompasses, at its core, an atmosphere of trust, freedom, joy and deep respect for who the child is. We trust that our children will learn everything they need to know through living their lives and following their passions. As parents we are here to facilitate and support them in their interests, whether that means taking a class, finding a mentor, or hanging out and living in the moment.

We are not a school-at-home list. We are not here to discuss curriculum or other school-at-home issues, there are lots of other places for that.

We do acknowledge that there are families on varying locations of the unschooling spectrum, and we are here to support each other on our unschooling paths. However, please keep in mind that for many of us, the unschooling philosophy extends into all aspects of family life ("whole life" or "radical" unschooling). So, if you choose to bring up a topic on this list, be prepared for the possible comments, questions, or on-going discussions that may challenge or question your pre-existing values or opinions.

As John Holt said: Birds fly, fish swim, humans learn.
