      I was also interested to note Van Dine’s lavish praise for A. A. Milne’s THE RED HOUSE MYSTERY, a book that Chandler savaged in a particularly venomous fashion in his own celebrated essay on crime fiction some years later.


      I’ve never read THE RED HOUSE MYSTERY. So who was right on this one, Van Dine or Chandler?
