- 2 Samuel 15
Matthew 21:1-10
"But David continued up the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went; his head was covered and he was barefoot. All the people with him covered their heads too and were weeping as they went up (2 Samuel 15:30)."
Absalom usurped King David's throne and took over his kingdom. He was prideful, conspiring against the king, and his scheming caused David to lose everything.
But all was not lost. David had many devoted followers, including six hundred Philistines and a pair of priests who tried to bring him the Ark.
It can be no mere coincidence that Jesus set foot on the Mount of Olives when he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. After all, the world did not recognize him as the true king of the Jews.
Like David, he also will have his rulership restored to its rightful state one day. Until then, his presence at the Mount of Olives is a silent testimony against a world that rejects him as king.
Dear Jesus, you are a king who builds his empire one heart at a time. Make my heart your territory, and have dominion over it so that every heart around me may surrender to your loving rule. I pray this in your holy name. Amen.
