Subject: Ban Cruel Fox Penning! (Virginia residents)

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) is taking public comments on proposed regulations of fox penning—a blood sport that involves trapping terrified foxes, dumping them into fenced enclosures, and releasing frantic hunting dogs upon them. The wild animals are chased to the point of exhaustion, cornered, and often mauled and even killed. Graphic videos of penning can be found on the Internet. To see graphic footage of penning, click here.

The proposed regulations, if passed, would "limit" hunting field trials to "only" five days per week, mandate the installation of ONE dog-proof escape enclosure every 20 acres, and prohibit monetary prizes. While the proposed regulations are better than nothing, they are not enforceable and overall will fail to adequately protect foxes. No respectable Virginian would support such cruelty for "sport," and the only way to prevent this massive suffering is for Virginia to ban penning outright.

Your compassionate voice is urgently needed—and please ask everyone you know to comment as well! Polite comments can be submitted via the VDGIF's Web form: https://www3.dgif.virginia.gov/web/comment/register.asp.
