FUR IS BACK?!YES, FUR IS BACK!Unfortunately, there are many reasons to believe that the fur industry is not bluffing when they say that "fur is back." Sales are up and they continue to use all the sophisticated tactics and personnel that money can buy while laughing all the way to the bank. Their success also has a lot to do with the lack of creativity and energy in anti-fur activism, at least in the United States where, in recent years, anti-fur activism has been relegated to Fur Free Friday events and even then, with a minimum of protestors and fanfare. Nowadays, it seems just about impossible to get anyone interested in anti-fur activism. What has happened?Fur should not have been a difficult evil to defeat. It is a winnable battle! While the fur industry spends immense sums on psychologists to study how to take advantage and cash in on human vanity, ignorance and indifference, and finds no shortage of less than moral "celebrities" to promote their offensive trade, our side seems to be stymied by inertia or is it that they have decided that fur bearing animals are no longer worth a fight. Either way, this is quite tragic. The suffering of fur bearing animals is not restricted to fur farms. While millions of fox, mink, chinchillas, rabbits and other fur bearing animals are raised and killed on fur "farms" in places like China, Russia, Scandanavia, the US and Canada, millions more, raccoons, coyotes, wolves, bobcats, opossums, nutria, beavers and other fur-bearing animals are killed every year for the clothing industry by trappers. There are NO laws to protect these animals from all forms of abuse. They lack even the minimum protection extended to all other animals, including those farmed for food. True, these laws don't offer very much, but nevertheless, perpetrators have landed in jail because of their abusive treatment of those animals.Fur bearing animals especially, suffer unimaginable abuse, including in hunting, trapping and penning, such that while still alive, they can be torn to pieces, by trained dogs, just for amusement. And that is considered a sport, legal in most states. Subjecting any other animal, to this kind of abuse, as in dog or cock fights, for example, would land someone involved in jail.CHILDREN IN THE UNITED STATES ARE BEING TAUGHT TO KILL:Did you know that in the United States, hunters and trappers are teaching their children from ages as young as 4 years old -- to hunt, trap, and kill fur bearing animals. We have seen photos of 6 year-olds who are "experts" at bow hunting. These children shoot trapped fur bearing animals at close range. They often do it motivated by money (about $5 or $6 for each animal killed). The danger is obvious: These children are growing up devoid of compassion for other sentient beings, and are being taught that it is OK to kill, with or without money. Who is addressing this issue? Where are the psychologists? Where are the parents and role models who need to teach children to respect all life? Needless to say, these children and their children will learn to use and abuse animals and perhaps other innocent, helpless victims. Wearing fur will mean NOTHING to them. So what does the future hold for non-human animals? ONE MILLION FOXES TO BE HUNTED & KILLED IN GERMANY/SWITZERLAND TO FULFILL DEMANDS FOR FOX FUR. THAT'S JUST 2 COUNTRIES!
