      The Securities and Exchange Commission today named Charles D. Niemeier to be the Acting Chairman of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. Niemeier will serve as Acting Chairman until the SEC selects a permanent Chair to replace William Webster, who announced in November that he did not intend to serve. Niemeier is one of the four existing PCAOB members and previously was the Chief Accountant in the SEC's Division of Enforcement. The SEC press release is available at

      The PCAOB will hold its first open meeting at 1:30 pm on Thursday, January 9. It remains to be seen whether the Oversight Board will endorse widespread rumors that its acronym is pronounced "Peekaboo." The meeting will be webcast at
