      Hello,

My name is John Bajema. I have traced my 9th Great Grandfather to Jacob Jacobs (1622-1678) a mayor of Workum. Married to Mettjen ANES in 1688.

I have information that his father was Jacob GEERTS, but I can not confirm this. I would like to confirm this if possible.

If anyone could help with where to look or information, I would greatly appreciate this.

      Thanks,
      John Bajema

      Tranlator output:

Mijn naam is John Bajema.

      Bedankt,
      John Bajema

The LDS site has Jacob Geerts (born: sloten abt. 1590) as the father of Rinck and Jacob Jacobs. They say that Rinck is a male, but I'm not sure that is true. It seems like a predominately female name.

Jacob Jacobs was married to Mettjen ANES in 1668 (not 1688 as I said before) he was married previously to Neeltje Sijmens (abt 1645).

There is a grave marking of Jacob Jacobs with a family crest on it in the St. Gertrudiskerk, Workum. If anyone lives in Workum I would love to have an rubbing or photos of the marker.

          John Bajema

The reason I say that Rinck might be a female name is because I find on Tresoar Vrouw : Rinck Jacobs.

              Hemelumer Oldeferd, huwelijken 1606

I also find a Jan Geerts who was born in Sloten in 1595, but this contridicts the LDS listing.

                  John, Ad and others,

                  Rienk is definitely male.
In ancient records (17th and early 18th century) Rinck is indeed
predominantly used for females and is then the equivalent of the female name
                  Rienkje or Rienke.

I would consider Anne (in the past, in Friesland) to be a predominantly male
name, the female equivalent being Anna or Antje.

                  Kind regards,

                  Nynke van den Hooven

Unfortunately (to make researching more complicated) the gender is not
always mentioned in the register, probably:

                    Ferwerderadeel, dopen, doopjaar 1674
                    Dopeling: Anne
                    Gedoopt op 25 februari 1674
Kind van Rienk Oenses en niet genoemde moeder

                    Gestandaardiseerde namen (voornaam en patroniem):
                    Dopeling : ANNE of ANTJE
                    Vader : RIENK OENSES

                    John, Ad and others,

                    Rienk is definitely male.
In ancient records (17th and early 18th century) Rinck is indeed
predominantly used for females and is then the equivalent of the female name
                    Rienkje or Rienke.

I would consider Anne (in the past, in Friesland) to be a predominantly male
name, the female equivalent being Anna or Antje.

                    Kind regards,

                    Nynke van den Hooven

                      Nynke,

Unfortunately (to make researching more complicated) the gender is not
always mentioned in the register, probably:

                      Ferwerderadeel, dopen, doopjaar 1674
                      Dopeling: Anne
                      Gedoopt op 25 februari 1674
Kind van Rienk Oenses en niet genoemde moeder

                      Gestandaardiseerde namen (voornaam en patroniem):
                      Dopeling : ANNE of ANTJE
                      Vader : RIENK OENSES
