'Fries' is a language (Anglo-Saxon, my father used to tell me) and (definitely) not a Dutch dialect.

Thanks so much for the wonderful information you kindly wrote in English, Nynke. I had no understanding of this and I know no Dutch. All my grandparents were born in Holland but they never used Dutch in the home. Thanks for helping me to understand the language changes from one dialect to the other.
