      Exciting things are happening at King Park!

      What can you do to help?

      Attend the City of Berkeley Parks and Recreation Commission meeting Monday, September 28th and make a brief statement during the public comment period.  Show that you support the improvement plan, the result of a series of community meetings in 2003 and updated in 2009 by the Friends of King Park!  Ask the City to allocate funds for the following park improvements included in the King Park plan on the Measure WW list…

      Increased play value

      §  Water play feature in the tot lot -  Priority Item!

      §  Plants for play-  Priority Item!

      §  Play structure for 5-12 year old children—installed in September!

      Improved Safety

      §  Removal of the concrete barrels which are an attractive nuisance

      §  Overhanging shrubs planted at the top of the retaining wall to discourage children from playing/riding bikes/jumping from the top of the wall

      Additional seating

      §  Additional picnic tables

      §  Additional benches—installed in September!

      Aesthetic improvements

      §  Mosaic mural on the retaining wall by King Middle School students*

      §  Bay-Friendly Landscaping*

      The City of Berkeley Parks and Recreation Commission meets on the 4th Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the North Berkeley Senior Center, Multi-Purpose Room, 1901 Hearst Avenue (MLK at Hearst Avenue).

        Jeanine- I can t make the meeting tonight. I see that the agenda includes: The Measure WW Subcommittee will present and discuss their funding recommendations

          I can't make the meeting tonight.
          I see that the agenda includes: "The Measure WW Subcommittee will present and discuss their funding recommendations to the Commission" and that the Commission plans to vote on those recommendations in October.
          Do you know if the Friends of King Park plans are going to be recommended by the subcommittee? For those of us who support your plan but can't make the meeting this month or next, are written and emailed letters of support useful, and when and to whom should they be sent?
