      Friends, Please come!

The Second Annual Temescal Street Fair will take place on Saturday, June 18
from 12PM to 6PM, along Telegraph Avenue between 51st Street and 48th
      Street.

Building on last year's strengths, the Fair will feature neighborhood-based
and regionally known performers, including the Stairwell Sisters (old-timey
string band), La Familia (Afro-Cuban son), and Junglz Apart (reggae/soca).
Neighborhood restaurants such as Tanjia (Moroccan cuisine), Lanesplitter
Pizza, and the new La Calaca Loca Taqueria will serve food, and numerous
community groups, including Destiny Arts, Opera Piccola, the Ella Baker
Center, and Clausen House will be present. Valet bike parking will be
provided by the East Bay Bicycle Coalition.

Our first fair was a phenomenal success, attracting over 5000 people and
getting rave reviews from the vendors. This year's Fair is expected to be
      even bigger.

This year's Fair is sponsored by Gate 48, a new housing development in the
neighborhood, the Temescal Merchants Association, the Temescal Business
Improvement District, and the City of Oakland's Community and Economic
      Development Agency.

      Children's Stage: New This Year

We are excited to announce that there will be two stages at the Fair this
year! The new Children's Stage, sponsored by Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream and
Children's Hospital Oakland, will feature musicians Asheba and Derique,
Madame Ovary, the Mixcoatl Anahuac Aztec Dancers, and Jeremy the Juggler.
The expanded activities in the Children's Area will also include a Climbing
Wall, Face Painting, Balloon Twisting, and many other activities.

Also new this year is the Neighborhood Fine Artist Exhibit. Chosen from
over a dozen applicants, our exhibitors this year will be Chaya Spector
(photography, www.redeyephotos.com), Deborah Quay (sculpture), Linda Lemon
(handmade paper and mixed media), Biliana Stremska (paintings,
www.stremska.com), Michael-Che Swisher (oils and watercolors,
www.ms-gallery.com) and Janet Gawthrop (watercolor, mixed media).
