The Friends of Temescal Creek is still searching for volunteers to do
things such as tend the email list. Please reply if you are interested.
Emeryville is planning the construction of a bike/ped bridge over the
railroad at Temescal Creek, from the vicinity of 53rd and Horton over to
the Bay Street complex. This is an exciting element of the creek
greenway, enhancing the connection from the Bay to the Hills along the
In Oakland at Telegraph and Claremont, there are plans to replace the
Global Video building with a multi-use residential/retail building which
will fit in with the urban street scape. This project is right on top
of the culverted Temescal Creek. Public will does not appear to exist
to plan and fund a forward looking effort to allow the new residences to
be built nearby on another site, thus enabling the creation of open
space atop the creek, allowing for future creek restoration.
The sunny side of this is that the developer is firmly supporting a
water feature (faux creek) to extend the feeling of the Temescal
Rockridge Greenbelt toward the busy corner of Telegraph and 51st. This
small green space will form a nice connection between open space and the
pedestrian oriented Temescal Shopping district.
