Sommet Sport Update
- From 14 April 2014 Sommet Sports will bring free sports coverage 24/7
to every New Zealand household.
Sommet Sport commences a new satellite service on Freeview and launches
on SKY Channel 069.
It has been a long anticipated launch onto satellite for Sommet Sport.
Now, in addition to their current UHF broadcast, satellite broadcast on
both Freeview and SKY will give the recently launched television company
similar coverage to that of every major New Zealand TV station.
“With our extension into satellite, and with great support from the
people at SKY, we will be able to deliver our channel free-to-air across
all platforms where Kiwis like to watch their sport. We appreciate SKY’s
commitment to us and see potential for future synergies and
opportunities with them”, says Andrew Reeves, Director of Sommet Sports.
John Fellet, SKY’s chief executive welcomed Sommet Sport to SKY.
“Sommet Sport is a great addition to SKY’s existing sports channels.
Adding a new sport channel with a unique offering means SKY customers
now have even more choice in what sport they watch. Attractive sporting
competitions such as German football league the Bundesliga and MotoGP
will be available on SKY with Sommet Sport. - Thanks for the information - much appreciated.
I seem to remember April 14 is the date Trackside and Freeview part
company. From that date Trackside will only be available via Sky. So,
Sommet Sports taking over Trackside's Freeview satellite slot ?

Doesn't this seem like a waste of SAT bandwidth having two feeds, one free

- So Sky win again!
It should be FTA on Sky's TP and FV units pointing to that.
About time ComCom rules Sky can't charge more than Freeview for a channel to go 'in the clear' on their platform. - They will probably make it part of their sport package !!!

- Because much of it isn’t broadcast quality, merely free 360p sub 1 Mbps streams that can be found by anybody, actually the broadcast quality is even worse than the original 360p from my comparisons of screen captures. How bad it will look once carried by Sky is beyond my imagination. I won’t be watching though but I love Sky’s 1080i.From: Steve Jepson ( Gmail )Sent: Tuesday, March 25, 2014 9:11 AMSubject: Re: [Freeview_nz] Sommet Sport UpdateMuch of it looks awful on DVBT . - Looks like they've updated the network layout on 12456H on Optus D1 for
Sommet sports. SID 1928 (the old Prime SID) has gone and been replaced by
SID 1937.
Can't confirm the content as I'm not at home at present.

- On their FB page they say "we have some good news to share on Monday...",
Probably they are bringing forward their Freeview satellite date me thinks, as it must be costing $$$ to broadcast a blank screen.
I guess we'll see. Nothing regarding Sommet in Sky's line-up yet (using a FTA reciever on autoscan). - At 05:43 p.m. 3/04/2014, you wrote:

- Nothing stopping them bringing it forward though Craig, esp if they are paying for a blank screen when they could be earning revenue from advertising. Sky, well that prolly will still be on the 14th.
The blank screen had programming on it today..
