Hello- I am trying to find some information about my husband’s great grandfather, Carlo Joseph Notturno. He was supposedly born in Germany (Glasteburg) in 1855. This is what I know about him: “Notturno was the name of the 'adoptive' (foster) parents in Italy.  However he was born in Germany to German biological parents.  Carlo was not formally adopted, just lived with foster parents.  He was in an orphanage as a child.  When he became of age, he joined the Italian army.  He was a barber by trade in business for himself.  Carlo came to America with one child in l882 and became a citizen in l894.”
What I would like to know is more about his military service and of course more about his life in Germany- his parents names, his German name, how he ended up in Italy.... Things like that. I am not sure where to start. Interestingly enough, he was supposedly married in Plattsburg, Germany to Josephine Sileo in 1882......hmmm.... Any help in what direction to go for this information is appreciated!! Judy

You can switch the language to German or Italian from my homepage. It doesn’t translate everything but it may help those of you looking at my site if English is not your primary language.

        Hello Judy,
I have one suggestion that pops up in my mind. In Newtown, CT there a
LDSFHC, that one I used. One volunteer, Chris (female), and another who is
no longer a volunteer but does or did pop up now and then to do research.
Her name is Georgia. Chris knows her well. Both have many years experience
in German genealogy. Georgia also speaks German; she took a course in it.
        She would be especially helpful.
        Good luck
        Joe

Thanks Joe. I just happened to make a quick trip to the LDS Family
History Center and found Carlo on the 1920 and 1930 Census and in
both of those, he indicated he was born in Italy as were his
parents.... So now I am wondering if he was really born in Germany at
all- I have never quite accepted it as fact. And the marriage in
Germany seemed strange too. So further checking is in order! I would
like to know though from her if she knows where Glasteburg, Germany
is (that is supposedly where he was born) and where Plattsburg,
Germany is (that is supposedly where he and Josephine were married)-
what 'county' they are in??? I would like to know that much and then
regroup. Let me know who to contact or if you will contact them with
my questions.... I don't have a problem with you giving them my email
address. Thanks for the help, Judy

and landed in Rochester NY. We have only got his grandfathers name, Karl or
Charles Zuck b/1875 in St. Wendel Germany and m/Nellie Montville b/1892 in
Plattsburg Germany, his father was Phillip Zuck b/1849 in Kirnsutzabach,
Germany, m/Barbara Demuth b/1852 in St. Wendel Germany, and his father Adam
Zuck m/Caroline Bauman, do not know where they were born or what yr yet.
            Most
of our family is still in Rochester, they came there from Pa. but we don't
know where or how on this either. Karl, Phillip and Barbara are buried in
            the
Mount Hope Cemetary in Rochester. We know they had other family in Pa. or NY
but don;'t know where or who, again stuck, the letter has no name but it
            says
cousin. Hope to hear from you soon. Cyndy

Maybe she knows something about Plattsburg.
