About 148,000 acres are dedicated to organic production in Idaho, making it the 8th highest state in the nation, according to the 2008 Organic Production Survey of the USDA Census of Agriculture.
Even then, there were already 219 certified organic producers in the state benefiting from organic product sales totaling $71 million.

But when Idaho was allocated $900,000 for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program Organic Initiative last year, Idaho farmers were only approved for about $400,000 because few farmers applied.

For 2010, Idaho has been allocated $798,000.

Organic farmers can meet with Harris Sherman, USDA's newly appointed undersecretary for Natural Resources and Environment, and Congressman Walt Minnick this week to see how to take advantage of the special funding for organic farmers.

        Hi everyone,
The event at Canyon Bounty Farm is a listening session for organic farmers only.  I'm sure anyone can attend, but the specific intent is for the USDA to understand how they can serve a group of farmers that is already fulfilling many of the purposes of the agency that hands out the money.
