Cops and Cheaters are super cheap timeslot fillers added only because from a viewership point of view, having anything on is better than having dead air. G4 has been in decline for a while. When you see a network replace virtually all of their original programming with the cheapest filler content available, you know the end is near.

It's a shell of it's former self. I downloaded some of their more recent reviews and it seems like they just don't care anymore. Like someone defeated them and their enthusiasm for the job.
It's not as sharp as it used to be. They seem to like pretty much every major game that comes out instead of how they used to be, somewhat misanthropic like how Zero Punctuation is now.

I loved X-Play back when it was about reviews and the spoofs.
But yeah, I quit watching it after they lost the actual studio too. I think that takes a lot of it away.
I love Morgan and Adam's old stuff. I wish they would quit G4 and go web-only, so they didn't have to be so tame about shit and could give more honest reviews. If they could promise half of the awesome that the show used to have, I'd watch every episode.

The reason why it's the lowest rated TV network has been spelled out numerous times here. I WISH they were fucking around, but it is quite literally a marathon of Cheaters and Cops.
People talk a lot of shit about G4 cause it killed Tech TV. While that does suck indeed, G4TV in it's high point was still a bit of a guilty pleasure to watch. That was back when X-Play was actually entertaining, Cinematech was a nice little nostalgia trip, Icons was awesomely informative (when it wasn't a rerun), Filter had that fine ass Diane Mizota from the terrible austin powers movie, and of course ARRRRRRREEEENAAAAA just because it was so corny.
I think it started going downhill was when they began doing their 2.0 series of syndicated shows. It started off with Star Trek TOS, then TNG, and while it WAS a 'nerd' demographic TV show, most of the time all the tickers and stupid trivia bullshit was just in the way and distracting. I think they must have lost their rights to play that show because it just dropped off the map one day. But it caused them to cancel (or severely drop from rotation) older shows just because, hey, they had star trek.
Then I guess when that wasn't working (direct tv didn't drop their asses then so I guess they were doing something right?) they turned the channel to SPIKE TV. YEAH THATS THE DEMO WE WANT RIGHT GUYZ? I MEAN THEY'RE DOING IT WHY DON'T WE?
That's when the fucking car shows started showing up, along with 'adult' oriented shows about 'adult' stuff at night. And movies, dear god the fucking movies.
Movies that don't suck, huh?

Sure they played good movies, but when those movies are ones that are really REALLY played out (Enter the Dragon must have been played 50 million fucking times on that channel) they have got to try harder than that.
Lets not forget the surviving totems of the G4 network, the only shows that actually give it some sort of identity. Attack of the Show went straight downhill once Olivia Munn was gone almost all the time, and they had on either Blair or the girl from Cheat, or the british news girl they fired for being a huge slut, and when ever she came back, Kevin would then be gone, and they'd replace him with unfunny hack comedian Chris Hardwick (I remember his name because I hate him) or the dude they got to replace the slutty british girl that did the news. Not to mention that Olivia seems like she's just cashing in paychecks cause now she's a Maxim (I think, don't quote me) Top x Hottest Woman. At least when Morgan Webb got semi popular, she didn't turn into a stuck up 'hollywood-type' like Olivia is now. All you had to do was see her coverage of E3, it was obvious she didn't give a shit anymore.
X-Play more or less has stayed the same, only the quality of writing has dipped up and down more or less and the review quality has diminished somewhat (though I never depended on X-Play alone for buying decisions). I hated the stupid crystal ball set they used to have.
And then came Cops 2.0. The nail in the coffin. To this day I will never, ever know what came over those in charge of programming at G4 for this decision. I realize that cops is a long running, cheap, syndicated TV show that can fill time slots BUT DAMMIT NOT ALL OF YOUR TIME SLOTS YOU CHEAP FUCKS. At first they had their 2.0 slogan on their and they did that bullshit fuck trivia and ticker feed. But then they got lazy and just said "Eh...just place it wherever so it looks like we got programming."
"But sir, we can't do that or else it looks like we're just a Cops network with a gaming review tv show, some japanese game show, and nerd culture news show!"
"Oh...Jimmy, hand me the Cheap Syndicated TV shows catalog."
takes it, rips out a page, slams it on the desk
"Hmmm, Cheaters. Yep, let's order it. It'll give us something to play on VALENTINES DURR."
And then the cheap ass 'original' content started flowing in. Like The Block? A reality show about a snowboarding lodge? Eh? Campus PD? Human Wrecking Balls? That one show about making people vomit? A Talk Soup knockoff about web videos that stars that horrible Chris Hardwick? What the fuck, G4, not only is this not your original demographic, this isn't even Spike TV demographic. This is akin to throwing darts straight up at the fucking sky and hoping one doesn't come back and stab you in your face. This is a desperate attempt at finding a demo, ANY DEMO AT ALL, and just running with it.
I don't even know if they do this anymore, but I had watched an episode or two of AOTS one day cause I was bored out of my skull and sick, when they played a video of women doing risque things and they had to censor it. And then after that, they go "In order to see the full uncensored clip, YOU GOTTA WATCH OUR STEAMY UNCENSORED REPLAY AT DERP IN THE MORNING TEE HEE HEE".
Go fuck yourselves, G4. You are a perfect example of what to never do when creating and marketing a network. DirectTV shouldn't have dropped you from it's line up, it should have activated its orbital cannon (you can't be a satellite service and NOT have one) and burned away all traces of your shitty network.

A few years ago I would watch g4, they would have decent movies and x-play was ok. G4 was essentially a viable stop on my channel-surfing-while-doing-homework spree. Now I know it would just be cheaters again...no thank you.

People are commenting like the whole network has died, and I'm sure we all wish that was the case. X-play really is the whole reason I'll even flip to the channel. Attack of the Show was NEVER good, sans Munn or not nobody likes that poser bitch. I hope the channel does die off completely, they deserve it for murdering TechTV.

Good riddance. They took a perfect network and deformed it into a shitty version of Spike. They grossly twisted a show about technology, and made it into re-runs of the same crappy shows and stealing memes from the internets. I had some hope for 'Movies That Don't Suck' but it also turned out that they play all the movies way too much. They try to insert some jokes into they're shows but they aren't all that good.

OH NO, I do remember. They were running the SHITTIEST cut of Weird Science I have every seen. Fuck you G4, for running that fucking shit.

From the sounds of it, G4 is actually better up here in Canada than it is in the States. I've never seen Cops on the channel, but I have seen: Aqua Teen, The Office, Venture Brothers, Attack of the Show, X-Play
They do still air Campus PD though... shudder
