- 1985-1632 hrs. 100 S. Summit St. formerly Sylvan Heights Orphanage(now the YWCA). Large stone three story U shaped rambling vacant former Catholic orphanage. Arsonist set fires in the first and third floors. Heavy fire damage to one room (contents destroyed) and hallway in the rear of the main building. A rug and bed were set on fire on the third floor. Heavy heat damage incurred to the first floor. Very smoky fire. Lt. George Brougher’s (S8) SCBA malfunctioned and he was pulled unconscious from the building. He was revived on the scene and taken to Harrisburg Hospital . One volunteer firefighter sustained burns on his knees. No loss given. Companies out three and a half hours. D Platoon, third alarm. It was never determined if this fire was connected to the February 4, 1985 second alarm arson fire to the same building.
