Group Description

UPDATE: (North America Only) There is a new, inexpensive and easy to obtain treatment now available! Currently in "trial" phase. Upon joining this group, you will receive a file about this drug. PLEASE READ IT! It has been VERY SUCCESSFUL in treating this disease!! Worth a try BEFORE doing extractions!

Feline Lymphocytic Plasmacytic Stomatitis/Gingivitis, Plasma Cell Stomatitis or Caudal Stomatitis- (affecting just the rear of the mouth and throat) is an *agonizing* disease of the mouth. Redness and/or ulcers on the tissue lining, drooling and foul odor from the mouth are common. A few treatments to control the symptoms do exist. This disease is frustrating to treat, BUT IS NOT A DEATH SENTENCE! We are here to discuss the difficulties we have in helping our kitties try to feel better.
"Caudal" Stomatitis is not autoimmune - it is immune-mediated. Auto-immune means the body attacks its own tissues, but immune-mediated disorders can be incompetent or decrease immunity (like FIV and FeLV), or more commonly an abnormally large immune response (like allergies, FIP etc). Caudal stomatitis is an abnormally aggressive immune response to allergens. If your veterinarian ever suggests Euthanasia before exhausting all avenues of treatments, get a second opinion!!
Two great videos to watch when joining.

This board was founded by Shane Fox in June of 2004. Her beloved cat "STONE" was afflicted with this disease for over 10 years. Stone passed away on February 24, 2010 of unrelated causes. This message board is now his legacy. He is sorely missed, but we have Stone to thank for this board.
