Group Description

Sacred Harp is a proudly inclusive and democratic American choral tradition of singing anthems, hymns, and spiritual songs in four-part harmony using shaped notes to aid sight singing.

We welcome beginners and newcomers, with no musical experience or particular religious affiliation--in fact, the tradition began in Colonial New England as "singing schools" designed to teach beginners to sing.

We gather to sing these time-honored melodies and haunting harmonies on the First and Third Tuesdays of each month at Bethlehem Lutheran Church 1145 N 5th Ave, St Charles IL form 7 to 9 pm.

For more information about Sacred Harp and Shapenote singing, as well as, a schedule of Sacred Harp gatherings in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, please visit fasola.org.
