I have the FT-897. It works great, except some of the menu items do
not seem to work as described in the manual. When I go to either
menu 60 (display meter during receive, menu 61 (display meter during
xmit) I can change the settings to any one availabe there. But
during receive I always see the meter as an S meter. Never as any of
the other settings. In transmit I can set the menu 61 to PWR, or any
other setting there, but during xmit the meter is still an SWR meter.

Does anyone have same problem or can tell me what I might be doing
      wrong? The manual sucks.

Read the manual again: those menus control the external meter, not the display meter. -- Brian N0KZ

          Thanks, Brian,

I must be dense, I re-read the passage and I must be missing one of the
words. I'll re-read it again several more times. But that must be what it
          means.
