      it definitely sounds like the labels were set to channel numbers which is why you can't see the frequency.  I'm not sure how that all works because I don't like labels, I'd rather see the frequency I'm on just to make sure I'm in the right place!  You can name each memory entry whatever you want, or leave it empty and it will show the frequency.

      There is probably a way to sequentially name the memory channels and that might be what has happened in your case.  Chirp will all you to remove the label without loosing your memory settings, but if you are worried about loosing them, you can just download the data from the radio into chirp just see what each frequency each one of these entries are.  Using chirp, you do not have to change any settings unless you want to.

      However, to use that (or any other memory software) you need a data cable to connect the 897 to the computer, this is different from the computer control cable if I remember correctly.

      Not MFg. It is in MFb, C key.
