The Dallas City Council passed an anti-Patriot Act resolution on a 9-6 vote!

I don't have any media links as of yet, because I just got back from Dallas
City Hall, but when word gets out in the papers, I'll let ya'll know.

I'll have pictures from the meeting up soon, but this is good, second city
in Texas to pass this thing; now it's on to my county: Ellis County
      (directly south of Dallas).

      Brian et alia:

Brian is right in that specific applications of the law have not yet been
problematic for civil libertarians.  However, I would guess that this is a
strategy to build acceptance for the new intrusiveness.  Remember, the
federal income tax was introduced as a "small" item applying only to the
"very rich"; similarly, the Patriot act is a "small" item applying only to
the "very obviously guilty" now, but in decades to come, may well be a key
layer in building the groundwork for a much more totalitarian tracking
      system.

And paranoia is not the operant word here -- just a bit of wisdom gleaned
from watching government grow for 60 years,

      Lee Nason
