      Dallas has had its share of police problems . . .

      Recent events give us much cause for alarm. Events such as the following from the last two months:
      • the firing of dirty cop Derrick C. Evans, who not only shot a teenager while off-duty, but was hired despite failing a polygraph about his involvement in a murder, and had a history of domestic violence;
      • the highly suspicious killing of shop owner Troy Vernon by Dallas narcotics officers;
      • the indictments of Dallas officers April and Thelan Boyd for arson and insurance fraud;
      • the Internal Affairs investigation of Dallas cop Elliot Forge for allegedly beating up gay and straight people in Oak Lawn, and his subsequent transfer to White Rock;
      • the fatal shooting of Luis Ortiz 30 times in the back, by five Dallas police officers;
      • the killing of Francisco German Castillo by an off-duty Dallas County deputy sheriff because Castillo allegedly threw a cup of hot corn on him;
      • press criticism of the ridiculously powerless Dallas Citizens Police Review Board.
       The newly formed Dallas Copwatch invites you to attend its first event.

      On Saturday, September 13, 2003 at 2:00 p.m., Ernesto Aguilar, co-founder of Houston Copwatch will be in Dallas to give area folks a free primer on Copwatch - what it is, what it does and why.

      This presentation will be followed at 3:00 p.m. by Dallas Copwatch's first free
      New Member Training.

      To join Copwatch, you must participate in trainings.

      Please note Dallas Copwatch prohibits membership by officers or agents of police forces or security companies and/or organizations.

      Those with special needs should contact Dallas Copwatch at 972-248-2289 to resolve these needs in advance.

      Even if you are not able to make the event, we would very much appreciate it if you could announce the event and spread the word for us. Many thanks.

      Dallas Copwatch is a nonviolent all-civilian group that strives to end police misconduct, brutality, and abuse of power through direct observation of the police in the streets, by way of video-taping, audio-taping, note-taking, still photography, and advocating for victims of police misconduct after the event.

      Dallas Copwatch also works to empower and educate the public about their legal rights; promotes an effective system for civilian oversight of police; and speaks out against "shoot to kill" policies by law enforcement officers and other issues endangering civilians.

      Dallas Copwatch is independent of law enforcement, private security, etc.

      Dallas Copwatch wishes to extend its profound thanks to WorldUnrest for offering us space on their Web server, and to Paperbacks Plus Books for allowing us to use their meeting room. Please note: neither WorldUnrest nor Paperbacks Plus Books sponsors, endorses, or otherwise affiliates with Dallas Copwatch.

      Peace,
