Concerning narrow gauge operations in the Great War, it would appear the Germans ran their lines very near the front, and suffered losses/ damage in consequence. I have a number of pics illustrating shot up lokomotiven, and rolling stock. One in particular is of interest . Apparently, long range artillery fire registered on a Kanal loading area. The post-action photo shows the barge in a half sunk state, and a loko derailed with severe splinter damage; all bathed in a sea of mud and debris. The whole scene begs to be replicated in a huge 1/32 scale modeling scenario.
